60 Minutes In 1988, Harry Reasoner introduced Rep. Charlie Wilson as the man responsible for funding the U.S. covert support of the Mujahedeen in the Afghan war against the Soviets. The segment was produced by the late George Crile, who also wrote the bestseller "Charlie Wilson's War." Watching this archive piece, I kept thinking how times have changed...

Reading about the Christmas Day incident aboard Northwest flight 253, I thought of a Lesley Stahl report on the TSA from December 2008. Chances are airport security will be tightened more - perhaps the government will deploy more of the controversial x-ray body scanners. Producer Karen Sughrue wrote an essay on the bod...y scanners and got a close look at what the process entails. What do you think? Should more of these body scanners be deployed at airports, or is it an invasion of privacy?

An early look at what's coming up this Sunday on 60 Minutes. First, Lesley Stahl reports on a water war of sorts in California. The state is running dry, and the question is: What can be done? Next up, Lara Logan interviews a former CIA operative who fought al Qaeda and the Taliban shortly after 9/11 (che...ck out a preview story below). He has an interesting take on what he thinks needs to happen now in the region. Plus, Steve Kroft revisits the "birdmen" - guys jumping off mountains in Norway.

Hi Everyone,
We have a terrific and very special story this weekend: Bob Simon interviews Patriarch Bartholomew, who leads the world's 300 million Orthodox Christians. Based in Turkey and with only 4,000 followers left in that country, he fears the Turkish authorities are trying to push his church out completely; Orthod...ox Christians have been in Turkey for 17 centuries.
It's a fascinating look at early Christianity. We visited Cappadocia, Istanbul, the Halki School of Theology, and also traveled to the Sinai Desert in Egypt to visit the oldest oldest continuously operating Christian monastery in the world.
Hope you can tune in this Sunday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

I listened to an opera today on the subway featuring the late, great tenor Luciano Pavarotti and remembered that there's an awesome Mike Wallace interview clip from 1993. A classic moment is when Pavarotti AND Wallace get on a rather small scooter...hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
